The
region that includes Babakale has got very interesting past.
Generally, the past
of the people living in Troas and West Anatolia goes back to 1071 A.D. After
Malazgirt war between Bizantion and Seljuk. The Turks begins to rush and settle
West Anatolia.

First settled groups were Turkoman and Yoruk tribes who were
living migrantly. They keep some animal like goat and sheep
and take their wool,milk. They wave rugs(kilim) and carpets(hali)
from wool ,produce cheese and yogurt from milk.They sell
these products and live on these. Expecialy rugs and carpets
are well-known in the world markets. |

If you visit this villages you
can easily see these scenes in their home and courtyard. The rugs and carpets
were made natural root dyes which are handling from plants,
flovers and some
plant roots. Now in Turkey, this production process is handling in scientific way.
The name of this project is
DOBAG
(Dogal Boya Arastırma Gelistirme-Natural
Dyes Searching and Developing Project). The Marmara University and about 40 Yoruk
and Turkoman villages works together in cooperation in this project.

The other art is making knife in Babakale.
This art goes back to 1700s the date
of founding village. When village is founding,some people'd
immigrated from Khazakistan. They'd brough their skill about madeing knife. Later
this knife become the symbol of Babakale. Now there are 2 studio in Babakale.
Each 2 producer are relatives.The characteristics of these knifes are being hand-made
work. Their still are hardened warming in a bellows and striking on an anvil.
Handle
of them is from ox horn. Tere is a nice silver handwork on it.
Masters produces 2
knifes for a day.It coasts 10-15$. Everybody buys them for present to his
relations.
